The Florence Melton Adult Mini-School

Offered September - May

If you desire to gain a strong foundation in Jewish learning, and to incorporate that learning into your daily life, then The Florence Melton Adult Mini-School is the place for you.

The Florence Melton Adult Mini-School is the largest pluralistic adult Jewish education network in the world, and the MJCCA’s Mini-School is one of the largest in the Melton worldwide network. We have graduated over 1,000 Atlanta students!

The Florence Melton Adult Mini-School is:

  • a curriculum of primary Jewish texts. Classes integrate Jewish history, law, language, practices, and ideas through study of primary sources and group discussion. The curriculum was developed at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
  • designed to accommodate your real life; there are no prerequisites, grades, exams, outside reading, or homework!
  • a 30-week, two-year program that follows the school-year calendar. Once a week, you will attend two 1-hour classes that are separated by a 15-minute break. Class size is limited to encourage discussion among the group.
  • a course of study that will engage you in ongoing Jewish education – many of our graduates have been involved in continuous Melton learning for 11 years!
  • taught by outstanding, expert faculty members who are widely recognized as the best adult educators in the community.
  • sponsored by the MJCCA in affiliation with the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School Institute, the Melton Center for Jewish Education in the Diaspora, and the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

Advanced Jewish Studies • September - May

Designed specifically for graduates of the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School, these courses offer the same high level of education as the core Melton curriculum. Biblical texts, Jewish history and ethics are studied in greater depth, incorporating the Melton-style of group discussion and facilitated learning through primary sources.

Who was Florence Melton?

A longtime Jewish activist and supporter of Jewish education, Florence Melton dreamed of transforming the lives of Jewish adults through an intensive, sequential course of study covering the basic tenets of Judaism. Her vision resulted in the Melton Mini-School curriculum, which was developed by a team of educators, rabbis and scholars at Hebrew University’s Melton Centre for Jewish Education and is now offered in over 60 communities throughout North America and abroad.
