Philosophy & Curriculum

Our Philosophy

We enrich the lives of young children and their families by providing a creative and warm community with a variety of opportunities for learning, growth, curiosity, and exploration. Our preschools are inspired by the principles of the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education and guided by Jewish values and culture. We view children as competent individuals and we encourage their self-expression and creative thinking. We honor the collaboration between children, families, and educators for a creative learning environment. Our preschool builds a strong community through parent education, family programs, social programs, and holiday celebrations.

Our Curriculum

Our progressive secular curriculum is based on four traditional areas of child development: social relations, literacy, cognition, and movement. We blend a Reggio Emilia-inspired curriculum with nationally acclaimed programs such as Mathematics Their Way, Zoo Phonics, and Handwriting Without Tears, and our own programs including Ready, Set, Go Kindergarten, and Sensational Science.

Our environment is warm and welcoming and fosters children's abilities to make choices, problem solve, master skills, and develop important relationships. Observing children in action and documenting their ideas is a valued and critical component of our program. Documentation provides opportunities for teachers to capture children's thoughts and ideas, to revisit their conclusions, and reflect on their experiences. It also provides parents with key insights into their child's creative expression and deductive reasoning.

Judaic Curriculum

Our Judaic curriculum focuses on eight areas of Jewish learning, including:

• Jewish Holidays

• Shabbat

• Jewish Texts

• God

• Hebrew

• Israel

• Rituals

• Values (An Ethical Start®)

Jewish values and celebrations create meaning in our daily life and provide a framework for the kind of relationships we strive to create.

An Ethical Start® Values-Based Curriculum

Our innovative, values-based curriculum is a groundbreaking program that teaches Jewish values and ethics to our three and four year-old students. As the only preschool in the state of Georgia to offer An Ethical Start®, our students explore how to live an ethical and moral life through lessons about respect, dignity, kindness, responsibility, and tradition.

"Not only did you provide a strong foundation for the start of kindergarten, but you also provided a strong beginning for our girls' lifelong journey with Judaism."
- Michal (proud MJCCA preschool parent)
