MJCCA Hosts a Variety of Hanukah Events

Hanukah, the Jewish Festival of Lights, is celebrated each year, for eight days and nights. This year, the festival begins at dusk on Tuesday, December 12, and ends on Wednesday, December 20. At the heart of Hanukah is a nightly lighting of the Menorah; special prayers, and delicious fried food. Join the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta (MJCCA) for one or many of its events to celebrate Hanukah at the Zaban Park campus (5342 Tilly Mill Rd., Dunwoody), and throughout Atlanta, all of which are open to the community. Here is a list of activities:

ProgramShabbat, Me & Rabbi G

When: Friday, December 8, 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Where: MJCCA Zaban Park campus, Sophie Hirsh Srochi Discovery Center (5342 Tilly Mill Rd., Dunwoody)
Who: Open to the Community and MJCCA members
Cost: Free
Details: Bring your children to enjoy a Hanukah-related Shabbat activity and story in the Srochi Discovery Center, followed by songs and blessings with Rabbi Brian Glusman, including a visit from the “Weinstein School Shabbat Dinosaur!”. Challah and grape juice will be served.

Program: Mommy, Menorahs, and Me!

When: Tuesday, December 12, 10:15 am
Where: East Cobb Library (4880 Lower Roswell Rd., Marietta)
Who: Open to the Community and MJCCA members
Cost: Free
Details: Join MJCCA East Cobb/Roswell for this Hanukah-themed playgroup at the East Cobb Library. Bring your friends and family, and enjoy stories and crafts about the Festival of Lights.

ProgramLight up the JCC – Menorah Lighting and Hanukah Celebration

Details: All are invited to 3 days of Hanukah fun and celebration at the JCC! Each night will feature Hanukah songs with Rabbi Glusman, followed by the lighting of the Hanukah menorah. J Dance Company performs Dec. 12; Songs with MJCCA Day Camps to be performed Dec. 13; Magic show featuring “Howie the Great!” on Dec. 14. ProgramConnect in Your Neighborhood: Hanukah Party at The Cooler

When: Saturday, December 16, 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm
Where: The Cooler, 10800 Davis Drive, Alpharetta
Who: Grades 6 – 8, Open to the Community and MJCCA members
Cost: $23/Community; $15/MJCCA members
Details: Come ice skate and celebrate Hanukah with your Connect friends in your neighborhood at The Cooler during their free skate. Price includes ice skating, skate rental, and Hanukah sufganiyot (donuts). Don't forget to bring socks! Open to all Jewish teens in the Atlanta area.

Program: Hanukah at The Children’s Museum of Atlanta

When: Sunday, December 17, 11:00 am – 12:30 pm
Where: The Children’s Museum of Atlanta, 275 Centennial Olympic Park Dr., NW

Details: Join Rabbi Glusman at The Children's Museum of Atlanta for two Hanukah performances on Sunday, December 17. Program will include performances at 11:00 am and 12:00 pm along with Hanukah activities, crafts, songs, stories, and more!

Program: Decatur Square Candle Lighting & Hanukah Party

When: Monday, December 18, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Where: Decatur Square, 115 Sycamore Street, Decatur
Who: Open to the Community and MJCCA members
Cost: Free
Details: Celebrate the Festival of Lights with the MJCCA Intown and Chabad Intown for a special Menorah Lighting in Decatur Square. Enjoy song sessions, holiday crafts and yummy latkes and jelly donuts.
