Swim Instructors

All MJCCA swim instructors are Water Safety Instructor Certified (WSI) by the American Red Cross. All of our instructors hold more than one certification from a nationally recognized organization. We invite you to stop by the pool to meet our wonderful staff.

 

Andrew

Born and raised in the Metro Atlanta area, Andrew is a graduate of Druid Hills High School where he swam on the variety swim team all four years of high school. There he was captain of the team his junior and senior year. He then went on to Darton College where he swam for two years going to Nationals each year. He currently attends Georgia State where he is pursing a degree in Physical Education and sports management. Andrew has always been around the water swimming since a young age. He maintains certifications in lifeguarding, CPR/AED, is a certified USA coach and WSI instructor. In addition to teaching lessons, he a MJCCA lifeguard, pool supervisor and swim team coach.

Britta

Born and raised in Tübingen, Germany, Britta came to the United States in 2006 when she accepted a swim scholarship from the University of Miami, FL. A German national champion, two-time German record holder, four-time FINA World Cup Finalist as well as multiple state record holder and champion, she graduated as 8-time school record holder for the Hurricanes in 2009. Britta also represented UM as a member of the All-ACC Academic Team during all years of participation. She went on to receive a graduate degree in Sports Administration, also from the University of Miami.

Britta then worked as Assistant Coach for the 2010 and 2011 National Champion Emory women’s and men’s swim team as well as Head Coach for the Emory Masters Swim Team. Britta now works for an international sports consultancy while making time for her passion of swimming.

Christy

Christy graduated from Georgia Tech with a B.S. in Management. She has a Masters Degree from Mercer in Early Childhood Education. She grew up in Atlanta and swam year round for Swim Atlanta. Christy is married and has 3 children. Christy is WSI certified to teach swim lessons and has been teaching lessons for over 8 years. She enjoys teaching Mommy and me classes and learn to swim.

Deanna

Deanna is originally from Old Hickory, Tennessee. She relocated to Atlanta in 2008 from New York City. While attending The American Musical and Dramatic Academy in NY, she was a private swim instructor at the JCC of Manhattan and The Reebok Sports Club of LA/NY. After four years of teaching, Deanna was promoted to Swim Instruction Coordinator at the JCC of Manhattan. Deanna teaches a wide range of lessons from children ages six months to adults. Deanna has worked for the MJCCA Aquatics Department since August of 2008. She continues to develop professionally as a private swim instructor, summer pool supervisor and an assistant swim team coach for the Zaban Sharks.

• In Deanna's spare time she enjoys riding her bike, swimming and karaoke

Emily

Emily is originally from West Caldwell, NJ and is a recent graduate of Emory University with a degree in Psychology and Spanish. She will be attending graduate school for social work in the fall of 2012. She has been involved as a swimmer and coach with various swim team programs from the age of 4. As a college student she was a member of the water polo team at Emory and was the captain of the team her senior year. Emily has taught swimming lessons to children and adults of all ages for over 6 years and has been a lifeguard for over 7 years. She is certified in first aid and CPR, as a water safety instructor and a lifeguard. She loves swimming and being around the water.

Faith

Faith has loved the water since she was five years old. Although born in Savannah, GA she has been around pools all her life growing up in Florida. Faith graduated from Florida A&M University with a Bachelor's degree in Journalism and a minor in photography. She has been involved in the field of aquatics for 8 years being certified as a lifeguard since 2002. In addition to lifeguarding Faith is a certified Water Safety Instructor. She enjoys teaching and working with all levels from infants learning water safety to older children perfecting their swimming fundamentals to seniors wanting to swim for the first time.

Jillian S.

Jillian was born in northern Kentucky and learned how to swim at her local swim club when she was just 5 years old. She was also on the diving team. She then moved to southwest Florida where she gained her love for lifeguarding and teaching children of all ages to swim. Jillian has lived in Kennesaw Georgia for almost 3 years now and graduated from Kennesaw State University with a BA in Dance. Jillian has been a lifeguard since 2005 and also has her Water Safty Instructor Certification.

Marissa

Marissa was born in Brooklyn, NY and has been swimming and loving the water since she was two years old. Marissa has been a part of several swim teams and dive teams. She recently graduated with an Associate's degree in Psychology and is currently working on her Nursing degree. Marissa has been a lifeguard certified since 2005 and a certified swim instructor since 2009. She has worked with all ages from 6 months to 37 years.

Ray

Ray, originally from Newport, Rhode Island moved to Atlanta, Georgia in the 1990’s. A graduate of North Atlanta High School, she swam for the City of Atlanta Dolphins and worked as a lifeguard with the City of Atlanta for many summers. Ray has years of swim instruction under her belt working with infants to adults. Out of the water, Ray is currently pursuing a degree in Art Education and hopes to teach art to middle or high school students.
