Swim Instructors

All MJCCA swim instructors are Water Safety Instructor Certified (WSI) by the American Red Cross. All of our instructors hold more than one certification from a nationally recognized organization. We invite you to stop by the pool to meet our wonderful staff.

 

Andrew

Born and raised in the Metro Atlanta area, Andrew is a graduate of Druid Hills High School where he swam on the variety swim team all four years of high school. There he was captain of the team his junior and senior year. He then went on to Darton College where he swam for two years going to Nationals each year. He currently attends Georgia State where he is pursing a degree in Physical Education and sports management. Andrew has always been around the water swimming since a young age. He maintains certifications in lifeguarding, CPR/AED, is a certified USA coach and WSI instructor. In addition to teaching lessons, he a MJCCA lifeguard, pool supervisor and swim team coach.

Deanna

Deanna is originally from Old Hickory, Tennessee. She relocated to Atlanta in 2008 from New York City. While attending The American Musical and Dramatic Academy in NY, she was a private swim instructor at the JCC of Manhattan and The Reebok Sports Club of LA/NY. After four years of teaching, Deanna was promoted to Swim Instruction Coordinator at the JCC of Manhattan. Deanna teaches a wide range of lessons from children ages six months to adults. Deanna has worked for the MJCCA Aquatics Department since August of 2008. She continues to develop professionally as a private swim instructor, summer pool supervisor and an assistant swim team coach for the Zaban Sharks.

• In Deanna's spare time she enjoys riding her bike, swimming and karaoke

Faith

Faith has loved the water since she was five years old. Although born in Savannah, GA she has been around pools all her life growing up in Florida. Faith graduated from Florida A&M University with a Bachelor's degree in Journalism and a minor in photography. She has been involved in the field of aquatics for 8 years being certified as a lifeguard since 2002. In addition to lifeguarding Faith is a certified Water Safety Instructor. She enjoys teaching and working with all levels from infants learning water safety to older children perfecting their swimming fundamentals to seniors wanting to swim for the first time.

Ilyssa

Atlanta native Ilyssa is a senior at Riverside High School. Ilyssa began her swimming career at the age of seven with the MJCCA Zaban Sharks. As a long-time competitive swimmer, Ilyssa is currently captain of the Riverside High School Varsity Swim and Dive Team and has competed on the team all four years of high school. Ilyssa has worked for the MJCCA Aquatics Department for three years as a lifeguard, summer camp swim instructor, assistant summer league swim team coach and a private instructor. Ilyssa is Lifeguard, CPR, AED, First-Aid and WSI certified.

Jillian

Jillian is originally from Jackson, Mississippi and is a graduate of the University of Alabama (Roll Tide!) with a BA in Theatre and English. She has been a swim instructor at the MJCCA since 2006 and uses her experiences in youth swim teams, lifeguarding, WSI, and theatre to teach young people and adult’s safety and confidence in the water. When Jillian is out of the water, she works as an improviser at an Atlanta Midtown Theatre. She also teaches improve and is a Co-Producer for the JaCKPie Sketch Program. She also performs for other theatre companies around Atlanta and writes, produces and acts in short and feature films.

• In Jillian’s spare time she enjoys attending theatre shows, riding her bike and playing with her dog Galli.

Kacy

Roswell native Kacy is a senior at Centennial High School. Kacy has worked for the MJCCA Aquatics Department for three years using her skills and certifications to lifeguard, work with the summer camp instructional swim program and to teach private lessons. Kacy swam at Swim Atlanta until her new found passion of Lacrosse consumed her time. Kacy currently plays Lacrosse for her high school. Kacy is Lifeguard, CPR, AED, First-Aid and WSI certified.

• In Kacy’s spare time she enjoys reading, running and spending time outside

Natalie

Natalie graduated from Columbus State University with a B.S. in Early Childhood Education. She has been a swimmer since she was a baby and started swimming competitively when she was in the 3rd grade. When Natalie began college in 1995, she became WSI certified with the American Red Cross to teach swim lessons and was also certified as a Lifeguard. Natalie continued to teach swim lessons through college, after college and now as a mom. She has been married for 5 years and is the mother to two wonderful boys. Natalie has been teaching swim lessons with the MJCCA since 2006 as well has been the pool supervisor, boot camp instructor and more.

• In Natalie's spare time, she enjoys running marathons, cooking, swimming, traveling and loving life.

Ray

Ray, originally from Newport, Rhode Island moved to Atlanta, Georgia in the 1990’s. A graduate of North Atlanta High School, she swam for the City of Atlanta Dolphins and worked as a lifeguard with the City of Atlanta for many summers. Ray has years of swim instruction under her belt working with infants to adults. Out of the water, Ray is currently pursuing a degree in Art Education and hopes to teach art to middle or high school students.
