The Door and Ladder Society: Atlanta Jewish Teen Philanthropy Initiative

Suppose someone gave you $20,000 and said,

“Take this money and use it to make our Jewish community a better place.”

What would you do?

You could be one of a select group of Jewish teens with the power to decide…

The Door and Ladder Society is a hands-on philanthropy program for Jewish 10th and 11th graders who want to change the world!

Along The Way, You’ll Have The Opportunity To

  • Get to know teens from different Jewish backgrounds
  • Figure out how Jewish concepts such as tzedakah, justice, and community apply in today’s world
  • Learn how philanthropy and non-profits make a difference in the world
  • Talk about the role of money and power in our culture
  • Meet changemakers, teachers, and community leaders

Over the course of the program you will collaborate with peers to explore the meaning of philanthropy and your responsibility to our community. You will serve as a grantmaking board to distribute $20,000 to local Jewish projects of your choice.

Our Commitment To You

  • Letters of recommendation for college applications and job opportunities
  • A unique opportunity to meet community leaders and local philanthropists
  • Community service credit
  • Access to a network of peers from all over the country

About Our Name

The Door and Ladder Society is named for two powerful Jewish concepts. Dor l'dor in Hebrew means generation to generation. The ladder is a famous Jewish metaphor for increasingly meaningful giving aimed at repairing the world.
