The MJCCA’s golf tournament is the agency’s largest annual fundraising event. Each year, The MJCCA BB&T Harry Maziar Classic honors an outstanding member of the MJCCA whose leadership and dedication has helped shape Atlanta's vibrant Jewish community. Proceeds from the tournament provide scholarships for individuals and families in need, ensuring that our innovative programs and vital services are accessible to everyone in our community.
The MJCCA is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Our tax ID is 58-0566126.
This year, the MJCCA is proud to honor Howie Hyman, who has held almost every position at the MJCCA during the past 40 years, with a ubiquitous presence as coach, chair, and CEO. The University of Georgia graduate quickly became involved in the JCC through sports, beginning with his early days playing in leagues. He went on to coach 500+ kids and co-chair athletics for two Atlanta Maccabi Games and two Senior Olympics Games. Rarely has anyone logged as many hours on the JCC ball fields, or understood the connection between competition, camaraderie, and community, as Howie.
Howie first joined the JCC Board of Directors in 1978, and then took on a host of committee positions that culminated in serving as MJCCA President during the 2000 Zaban Park expansion. He switched from volunteer to professional in 2010 when he served as the MJCCA Interim CEO. He credits those 16 months as the highlight of his career, and recounts with enormous pride, the professional staff's expertise and love of community that have made Atlanta the envy of the JCC world. Howie went on to co-chair the MJCCA Governance Board from 2013-2015 and currently serves as a member of the Executive Board. The MJCCA honored Howie with the Erwin Zaban Bridge Builder Award, and he is a two-time recipient of the JFGA Mary and Max London People Power Award for creating innovative community programs.
