MJCCA Arts + Culture Announces an Exciting Winter/Spring 2018 Season

Season Includes: Dance, Comedy, Music, Author Events, and More!

The Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta (MJCCA) is pleased to announce its exciting Winter/Spring 2018 Arts + Culture season, with programs taking place at the MJCCA (located at 5342 Tilly Mill Road, Dunwoody). “This is a season that I am particularly proud of; one that is comprised of performances, author events, and productions for the entire community,” explains Sandra Bass, MJCCA Director of Arts + Culture. “Through this season’s lineup, there truly will be a cultural offering for every age and interest.” 

MJCCA’S ARTS + CULTURE LINEUP

What: KORESH DANCE COMPANY
When: January 27, 8:00 pm & January 28, 5:00 pm
Where: The MJCCA’s Morris & Rae Frank Theatre
Cost: $25-$38  
Details: Founded in 1991 by Israel-born choreographer and artistic director, Roni Koresh, the Koresh Dance Company is known for its engaging performances and technically superb dancers!                       

What: COMEDY – You’re Funny but You Don’t Look Jewish
When: February 10, 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm
Where: The MJCCA’s Morris & Rae Frank Theatre
Cost: $18 – $24
Details: An Italian-American, African-American, Vietnamese–American, and Indian-American walk up to a barstool. Hilarity ensues. Four Jewish stand-up comedians — Mike Capozzola, Gina Gold, Joe Nguyen, and Samson Koletkar — will share the stage and their experiences as ‘undercover’ members of the tribe!


What: MUSIC – Noa (Achinoam Nini)
When: Saturday, February 17, 8:00 pm
Where: The MJCCA’s Morris & Rae Frank Theatre
Cost: $40-$55  
Details: Israeli Achinoam Nini, also known as Noa, has shared the stage with superstars like Sting, Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder, and Andrea Bocelli. She has performed in venues including Carnegie Hall, the White House, and the Vatican, and has sold millions of albums worldwide. Don’t miss this epic and moving performance!


What: MUSIC – Joe Alterman Trio
When: Sunday, March 18, 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm
Where: The MJCCA’s Morris & Rae Frank Theatre
Cost: $20-$25  
Details: Joe Alterman returns to the MJCCA for one night only! Don’t miss this evening of elegantly swinging jazz with the piano master! Joe Alterman has studied with greats like Don Friedman, Joe Lovano, and John Scofield. He has performed at world-renowned venues, including the Kennedy Center. Alterman’s latest release, Comin’ Home to You, is his fourth critically acclaimed album.


What: BOOK TALK & SIGNING – Author Steve Berry, The Bishop’s Pawn
When: Sunday, March 25, 7:00 pm
Where: The MJCCA’s Morris & Rae Frank Theatre
Cost: $10-$15  
Details: A Page From the Book Festival of the MJCCA welcomes New York Times Bestselling Author Steve Berry (who hails from Marietta, Georgia). Berry will present his newest thriller, The Bishop's Pawn, which delivers a riveting adventure involving his recurring hero, former-Justice Department operative Cotton Malone.


What: FAMILY THEATRE – Play the Play with Cat the Cat
When: Sunday, April 15 – 10:30 am, 12:00 pm, and 4:00 pm
Where: Presented by Alliance Theatre’s Kathy & Ken Bernhardt Theatre for the Very Young, in the MJCCA’s Morris & Rae Frank Theatre
Cost: $10 – $14
Details: Using rhythm and language from Mo Willems’ beloved Cat the Cat series, this production invites young audiences to identify Cat the Cat’s parade of animal friends, mimic their sounds, and learn a new language.
Ideal for children 1-5 years.


What: eXplosion, the Art and Comedy of BAM Percussion
When: Saturday, April 28, 8:00 pm and Sunday, April 29, 4:30 pm
Where: The MJCCA’s Morris & Rae Frank Theatre

Details: From beginning to end, eXplosion electrifies the crowd with its powerful rhythms and its deliriously funny sketches. The pulsating energy of BAM is contagious: through drumbeats and laughs, it overwhelms the audience. What is BAM's formula? Side-splitting comedy and savage drumming virtuosity! The BAM characters, who look like they walked straight out of a mad cartoon, speak a unique language: BAM speech, spoken only by them, but understood by all ages.


What: ‘WHAT WAR ZONE,’ The Comedy of Benji Lovitt
When: Thursday, May 3, 7:30 pm
Where: The MJCCA’s Morris & Rae Frank Theatre

Details: Benji Lovitt presents a hilarious picture of Israel by deconstructing cultural differences and the immigrant experience in Israel. Benji's energy and enthusiasm will make you laugh out loud as he sheds light on embarrassing Hebrew mistakes, Jewish holidays, and exactly what makes Diaspora and Israeli Jews different from each other.


What: BOOK TALK & SIGNING – Author Anita Shreve, The Stars Are Fire
When: Tuesday, May 15, 7:30 pm
Where: The MJCCA’s Morris & Rae Frank Theatre

Details: A Page From the Book Festival of the MJCCA is pleased to welcome Author Anita Shreve.
