This course examines Jewish identity and religious expression against the backdrop of dramatic political and social change. We will be reading and discussing primary texts to gain insights into the historical and ideological developments of the major movements,

This class will include the second half of the Melton Jewish Denominations course:

Class 6: The Early Conservative Movement & the Reconstructionist Alternative

Class 7: Ideology & the Synagogue-Center: Visions of Conservative Judaism

Class 8: American Orthodoxy: Divisions & Realignment

Class 9: Jewish Peoplehood & Jewish Denominations

Class 10: Beyond Denominations
