Wrestling with Evil: Jewish Tradition & Why Bad Things Happen to Good People
view options The question of, indeed the fact of, evil has challenged Jewish thinkers and the Jewish tradition from earliest times. Why do bad things happen to good people? If G-d is “all powerful” and “all good” where does evil come from and why do evils happen? This course examines the ways Jews and the Jewish tradition have struggled with the question of evil and its source. From the creation story to Kabbalah, from Maimonides to post-Shoah theologians, we will engage the question of evil, responses to it, and its relationship to our understandings of G-d.Instructor: Dr. Edward Queen
