The Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta is proud to present The Lisa F. Brill Institute for Jewish Learning. We offer an array of opportunities to search, discover, examine, and experience multiple facets of Jewish life. Our programs and classes are perfect for individuals of all backgrounds who would like to explore: Jewish texts and their analysis, philosophical inquiry, memory making experiences for Shabbat and holidays, and more. Taste of Judaism

Free, 3-week introductory class

Throughout the year, the MJCCA offers 'A Taste of Judaism’, one of our most popular Introduction to Judaism classes. This 3-part series is offered free of charge, and is open to ALL, whether Jewish or not. This series is for those who curious about Judaism: unaffiliated Jews, interfaith couples, and those of other religious backgrounds. Classes are held througout Metro Atlanta. Explore Jewish spirituality, values & community. 'A Taste of Judaism' is designed for beginners and is open to the entire community.

An Introduction to Judaism - Derech Torah

This course was designed with you in mind! It is for those who want to explore the essence of what Jewish living is all about and to engage participants in a conversation that includes the essential question: WHY.

Our Introduction to Judaism presents you with a pluralistic approach to learning. The class materials are provocative, challenging and stimulating.

Learning with a community of like-minded adults, representing a variety of backgrounds and cultures, the class is taught in an inclusive, sensitive and non-judgmental manner.

In addition to the regularly scheduled classes, participants will have the opportunity to visit synagogues, attend Sabbath services and meet with community rabbis. A special visit is scheduled to the Breman Museum, Atlanta’s Jewish Heritage Museum, where you will meet and hear from a Holocaust survivor. Sabbath dinners and other jewish experiences are included as well.

Although this class is open to people of all faiths, the Atlanta Rabbinic Association has fully endorsed this class which may be used a a pre-requisite for those who are considering conversion to Judaism.

An Introduction to Judaism: Derech Torah is a 20 week course and will start at 7:00 pm on December 8. Fee for this course is $260 per person + $10 materials fee. Classes touch upon all the major aspects of Judaism including lifecycle events, ethics & values, holidays, the Bible, Israel, and history.

Foundations of Jewish Family Living is a new curriculum for parents that provides a thought-provoking encounter with the core values of Judaism. Developed by the renowned Florence Melton Adult Mini-School, a project of the Hebrew University, the curriculum brings to life the master stories from our tradition and the profound messages they convey.

This rich learning experience for adults will provide an opportunity for you to bring the Jewish conversation home to share with your children. At a time in your family's life when your child is beginning his or her own Jewish education, Foundations of Jewish Family Living provides you with the learning, the language, and the confidence to be a teacher to your own children.

The topics to be explored include: being created in God's image; welcoming guests; caring for the environment; kindness to animals; respect for parents; Jewish space; Shabbat and holidays; prayer; using words carefully; improving the world; and becoming a Jewish nation.
