The WHO WHAT WHERE & WHY of Great Jewish Composers Featured in Keyboard Conversations at the MJCCA
Sunday, April 6, 2014
Anyone who has ever wanted to know more about the who, what, where and why of great musical compositions is invited to come to the Morris & Rae Frank Theatre of the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta (MJCCA, 5342 Tilly Mill Road, Dunwoody) on Sunday, April 6 at 4:00 pm. That afternoon, the witty and erudite pianist Jeffrey Siegel will present Great Jewish Composers, an informal, informative program of concert-plus-commentary with insights into the stories behind the music. For information, call 678.812.4002, or visit www.atlantajcc.org.
The Great Jewish Composers program includes: Gershwin's rarely heard solo piano version of Rhapsody in Blue, Aaron Copland's famous Rodeo and humorous Cat and the Mouse, Mendelssohn's vivacious Rondo Capriccioso , The Jets from Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story, and the melodious gems of Milhaud, Alkan, Franz Reizenstein, and Anton Rubinstein.
Newcomers to classical concerts have welcomed these programs because they present an informal, accessible and highly entertaining introduction to the vast repertoire of the piano and to classical music in general. Siegel's unique presentation also has earned him the loyalty of classical aficionados. The performances delightfully combine his vast knowledge, wit and stellar pianism. Siegel conducts this ongoing series in other American cities including New York, Chicago, Washington D.C., Cleveland, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Atlanta, Phoenix, Dallas and Denver. Critics have described Jeffrey Siegel as, "The Leonard Bernstein of the keyboard” and "A Musical Carl Sagan."
