Important MJCCA News

As CEO, it is my privilege to announce news to our community that will enhance the level of innovation and expertise at the MJCCA. I am excited to share with you that David Fried has been promoted and will now serve as the MJCCA’s Chief Program Officer.

As some of you know, David Fried came to the MJCCA earlier this year as an Assistant Director at Camp Barney Medintz. During the summer of 2021, David was instrumental in establishing all COVID-19 processes and action plans. The intentional protocols and testing process he put in place greatly minimized the threat of COVID-19 and allowed Camp Barney Medintz campers and staff to have a meaningful and safe summer, free of COVID-19.

Without a doubt, Jewish overnight camp represents a large part of David’s life, passion, and career, having served as the Camp Director and Executive Director of Camp Shalom, a Jewish overnight camp in Florida. While in that role, he led end-to-end operations including program facilitation, recruitment and retention, financial planning and oversight, and facility operations management.

His expertise, experience, and passion also encompass JCC operations, management, and programming.

David spent eight years as the Director of Health, Sports, and Wellness at the Michael-Ann Russell Jewish Community Center in Miami, Florida. In his time at that JCC, he developed, executed, and managed programs spanning aquatics, fitness, tennis, gymnastics, and athletics. He also created programs in collaboration with the preschool and departments for seniors and people with special needs.

There is much more I could share about David. He founded Mo Steel Football, South Florida’s first all-Jewish travel flag football team, winning eight NFL National Championships and two World Championships. He’s traveled to more than 20 countries to help other organizations establish their programs.

David grew up at the JCC, from attending JCC preschool to playing sports at the JCC to landing his first job at the JCC. He knows firsthand, as all of you know, just how significant of an impact a JCC can have on an individual, a family, and a community. I know that over the coming weeks and months you will each get to know David and learn even more about him.

David is fortunate to be joining a remarkable and dedicated programming team at the MJCCA. Working hand-in-hand with Senior Program Director Meryl Rindsberg, David is looking forward to innovating and collaborating across the MJCCA in his new role as our Chief Program Officer.

Sincerely,

Jared Powers
MJCCA Chief Executive Officer
