The MJCCA Spotlight Theatre Company is an audition-based theater program for actors with special needs. Participants train and take part in weekly master classes with professionals in the field. Spotlight participants have been part of ongoing enriching, hands-on theater and film experiences that help build self-confidence, self-esteem, social skills, discipline, and motivation, while also developing their skills as actors.
In addition to rehearsing and performing at the MJCCA and through partnerships, the group is currently producing a professionally written four-part web series. Spotlight actors were recently selected by Dad’s Garage, an Atlanta-based improvisational theater company, to partner together for a film production. Their debut short film, That Was Awesome, was presented at the 2018 Atlanta Film Festival.
The MJCCA Spotlight Theatre Company is generously sponsored by grant funding from the Helen Marie Stern Memorial Fund.
The MJCCA’s Inclusion Program strives to provide the necessary accommodations and flexibility for youth who require additional support so they may access the transformative opportunities available at the MJCCA. Our Inclusion Team collaborates with parents, educators, and staff to determine if successful program placement is possible. These youth and their families are then supported by our Inclusion Team through program accommodations and may also receive individualized assistance. Click here for more information.
