Center Theatre Kicks Off Its First Season With "Jewtopia," The Hilarious, Outrageous Comedy, On Stage At The 14th Street Playhouse

(ATLANTA, GA) – After running Off-Broadway for almost three years and setting the record in both New York and Los Angeles as the longest running comedy, JEWTOPIA is finally making its way to Atlanta! Center Theatre, Atlanta's newest theater company, is thrilled to present, JEWTOPIA, the smash hit comedy by Bryan Fogel and Sam Wolfson runs from June 19 – August 10, 2008.

In an effort to reach out to its Intown audience base, Center Theatre kicks off its 2008-2009 season with the outrageously funny JEWTOPIA at the 14th Street Playhouse in Midtown Atlanta. Center Theatre will then continue its mainstage season in Fall 2008 on its stage located at the MJCCA, 5342 Tilly Mill Road, Dunwoody.

JEWTOPIA tells the hysterical story of two thirty-year-old single men looking to meet the perfect Jewish girl. Chris O'Connell, a gentile, wants to marry a Jewish girl so he'll never have to make another decision again for the rest of his life. Adam Lipschitz, a Jew, wants to marry a Jewish girl to please his family but ' get a date to save his life. Chris and Adam meet at a singles mixer and decide to form a secret pact. Adam promises to teach Chris how to be a “Jew” if Chris shows Adam how to meet the Jewish girl of his parents' dreams. Stereotypes collide, cultures clash and chaos ensues.

The JEWTOPIA ensemble cast, directed by Center Theatre's Producing Artistic Director Blake Hall, includes Eric Mendenhall, Tony Larkin, Megan Hayes, Rial Ellsworth, Tafee Patterson, David Skoke, and Adora; and the production talents of: Travis George (scenic design), Chris Crawford (lighting), Linda Patterson (costume design), and John Zalewski (original Broadway sound design).

They are laughing for the full two hours; it's a good thing that we have an intermission! This, to me, was the perfect way to kick off this extraordinary inaugural season.”

Tickets to Jewtopia are $25 - $35. Senior, student and MJCCA Member discounts available. Reserved seating. All JEWTOPIA performances will take place at the 14th Street Playhouse, 173 14th Street, NE, Atlanta. All performances run Thursdays at 8:00 pm, Saturdays at 6:00 pm and 9:00 pm, and Sundays at 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm. For mature audiences only (18 and older).

  • The Classic Musical, “The Sound of Music” (Nov. 28 – Dec. 28, 2008);
  • Teen Theatre Production of Disney's “High School Musical” (Feb. 11 – 22, 2009); and
  • Neil Simon's Hit Comedy, “Brighton Beach Memoirs” (April 29 – May 24, 2009).
