MJCCA Celebrates Passover with Festive Events for All Ages

This year, the Jewish holiday of Passover begins at Sundown, Friday, April 22, and ends at Sundown, Saturday, April 30. To celebrate Passover, the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta (MJCCA) is hosting festivities the entire family can enjoy to celebrate Passover, one of the most widely celebrated holidays in the Jewish calendar. For information, visit www.atlantajcc.org.

What is Passover?

Passover is one of the most significant Jewish holidays, and commemorates the exodus of the Jewish people from Egypt after 400 years of slavery, as recounted in the biblical book of Exodus. It is one of three major Jewish festivals and represents the beginning of the harvest season in Israel. The holiday lasts eight days, and it is celebrated with a Seder, a holiday meal, which follows a specific order.

MJCCA Passover Events Include:

Thursday, April 14, 7:30 pm

Chocolate Passover Seder

This event for adults will be held at Congregation Etz Chaim (1190 Indian Hills Parkway NE, Marietta), and is a sweet and decadent twist on the traditional Passover Seder, according to Rabbi Brian Glusman, MJCCA Director of Outreach. “This event is a wonderful opportunity for adults to connect with Passover and enjoy the holiday in a different way,” says Rabbi Glusman. “Instead of the traditional Seder meal, we will use chocolate and ‘spirits’ to symbolize the traditional elements of the holiday Seder celebration.” This event is open to the community, and the cost is $25 per person.

More info: contact Rabbi Glusman at (678) 812-4161 or brian.glusman@atlantajcc.org or register online at www.etzchaim.net/chocolateseder.

Sunday, April 17, 2:00-5:00 pm

“Matzah at the Museum” Family Passover Celebration

This family Passover celebration will be held at the Children’s Museum of Atlanta (275 Centennial Olympic Park Dr., NW, Atlanta). Children of all ages will enjoy Passover songs, craft stations, storytelling, a Super Spectacular Passover Science Show, and entertainment by the MJCCA’s own Rabbi Brian Glusman. The event is open to the community, however space is limited.
