MJCCA Announces Change in Policy
Throughout the past year, the Marcus Jewish Community Center's (MJCCA) leadership and staff have been focused on improving our customer service and enhancing our mission of inspiring Jewish journeys. Recognizing the role Shabbat can play in furthering this mission within our community, the MJCCA's lay leadership has approved the recommendation of our Agency Policy Committee to expand our current hours. Effective Saturday, September 6, 2008, the MJCCA's recreational facilities will be open from 8:00 am – 6:00 pm on Saturdays.
We believe that Shabbat-oriented programming will enable us to better meet the needs of our diverse Jewish community and will reinforce Jewish connections cultivated here during the week. The MJCCA's fitness facilities (for our Total Health members), pools, tennis courts, and gymnasiums will be open throughout the day, and we will be offering Shabbat-specific programming in the afternoon.
It is often said that as much as the Jewish people have maintained Shabbat, it is even truer that Shabbat has maintained the Jewish people. Our new Shabbat policy is grounded in the belief that by opening on Shabbat, we will be helping to sustain and strengthen the Atlanta Jewish community in addition to upholding the nature of Shabbat itself.
We look forward to seeing you and your family during our expanded hours. As we continue to be your all-inclusive Jewish home, it is our sincere hope that the adoption of this new policy will further enhance your own personal Jewish Journey.
