About The Atlanta Radio Theatre Company
The ARTC has entertained, amused, thrilled, and terrified audio drama enthusiasts since 1984, when it was founded by radio personality William L. Brown and actor/director Patrick Stansbury. ARTC began as a weekly, one hour program on WGST-AM. Atlanta playwright Thomas E. Fuller (one of the authors of the Wishbone books) was enlisted as a principal writer, and numerous actors from the local theatrical community joined this exciting new venture. Shortly, Henry Howard, owner of Audio Craft, made his facility available to ARTC and came on board as a producer. ARTC has continued to thrive in venues such as Dragon*Con and now has a standing program, year-round. Although specializing in horror and science fiction, ARTC shows its mastery of the art and craft of audio drama in any number of genres.
Brian Kimmel, MJCCA Director of Arts & Culture explains, “With the advent of television, the popularity of radio theatre has waned, but this talented group of writers, actors, and sound technicians in Atlanta has succeeded in maintaining this art and craft of audio drama.” Kimmel continues, “ARTC shows have been featured on a number of radio stations in Atlanta, but the best way to experience the ARTC is at a live show, where you can see just how they craft their sound effects and manipulate microphone placement, creating adventures in sound. We are thrilled to welcome them here, to the MJCCA.”
