The MJCCA Celebrates Purim with Parties for All Ages

Celebrate the Jewish Calendar's Most Festive Holiday with Events with the J!

The Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta (MJCCA) celebrates Purim, one of the Jewish calendar’s most festive holidays, with events for all ages.

In preparation for the holiday, the MJCCA is hosting a Hamantashen Workshop for children at the culinary studio of the Kuniansky Family Center at the MJCCA’s Zaban Park Campus (5342 Tilly Mill Road, Dunwoody), from 2–4 p.m., Sunday, March 13. Children will learn about the history behind this triangle-shaped cookie and get to taste both savory and sweet fillings as they make these traditional Purim treats, and there will be treats for the kids to take home and share with their families. A similar culinary workshop for adults, Holy Hamantashen, will be held from 7-9:30 p.m., Monday, March 21. Registration for both events is required 48- hours in advance; fees are $20 for members/$30 for the community for kids and $35 for members/$50 for non-members for the adult workshop. For more information Contact Laura Ross for more information at (678) 812-3971; laura.ross@atlantajcc.org. To register, visit www.atlantajcc.org/hamantashen-workshop-for-kids for the children’s event or www.atlantajcc.org/holy-hamantashen for the adult workshop.

Families are invited to join us at MJCCA for Hava Megillah, a Family Purim Concert, from 10 a.m.—noon, Sunday, March 20. The festivities, sponsored by the 7th Annual Atlanta Jewish Music Festival (AMJF7), include music by children’s entertainers, Andrew and Polly, and Purim songs and stories with the MJCCA’s Rabbi Brian Glusman. Children and adults are encouraged to attend wearing colorful costumes and participate in the always festive Purim Costume Parade. The event is free and open to the community. Contact Rabbi Brian Glusman for more information at brian.glusman@atlantajcc.org; (678) 812-4161 or www.atlantajcc.org/family-purim-concert.

Friday, March 25, the MJCCA will host a Shabbat Sing and Purim Parade and Costume Contest for The Weinstein School, the MJCCA’s preschool. The parade begins at 10 a.m. on Main Street, followed by a special Purim-flavored version of the MJCCA’s Shabbat Sing in the Morris & Rae Frank Theatre.

Young adults can join in the fun too, at Purim Party, held at Terminal West, (887 West Marietta Street). Festivities begin at 8 p.m., Saturday, March 26, and include a concert by international recording artists, A-Wa and Jaffa Road, who are performing as part of the 7th Annual Atlanta Jewish Music Festival (AJMF7). Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door for adults. Party goers are encouraged to wear costumes to compete for prizes in a lively costume contest. The event is sponsored by Birthright Israel Atlanta and MJCCA Young Adults. Visit http://www.atlanta.jcc.org/purim-party for more information.
