The MJCCA Spotlight Theatre Company and Dad's Garage Present a Red-Carpet Premier of the Film, That Was Awesome!
Spotlight is an audition-based theater program of the Marcus JCC of Atlanta, for actors with special needs. Several Spotlight actors were recently selected by Dad's Garage, an Atlanta-based improvisational theater company, to partner on a short-film production of That Was Awesome, which will be presented at the 2018 Atlanta Film Festival. That Was Awesome focuses on the right for these adults with special needs to make their own choices. On April 25 at 7:00 pm, the MJCCA invites the community to the red-carpet premier of That Was Awesome, including movie screening, director commentary, actor panel, and dessert reception. The film will be presented at the MJCCA, 5342 Tilly Mill Road, Dunwoody. Ticket prices $5 in advance, $10 at the door. Open to the community. About Spotlight Theatre Company
Spotlight Theatre participants (aged 18+) train together taking part in weekly master classes with professionals in the field. With the support of seasoned educators and arts professionals, Spotlight participants have the opportunity to be part of an enriching, hands-on theater experience. In addition, the company rehearses and performs productions during their residency at the MJCCA.
“Through these hands-on theatrical experiences, and partnering with theater companies like Dad’s Garage,” said Jennifer Lieb, Director of the MJCCA’s Blonder Family Department for Special Needs, “participants gain increased self-confidence, self-esteem, social skills, discipline, and motivation — life skills that are useful long after the final curtain call.”
