About the Book

Vern Yip is back to reveal the design tricks that will give any home a luxury retreat-like feel. Vern is passionate about creating homes that nurture the people who inhabit them. After thousands of transformations, both on and off television, he knows that our homes should be restful and restorative spaces–but too often fall short of that ideal. Having traveled millions of miles, staying at a wide range of accommodations, Vern has learned that the best resorts and hotels have a lot in common: they consistently implement key design principles that make them the serene and calm destinations we all aspire to. Having applied these same principles to his own home, and to his clients’ homes, Vern has successfully created that “on vacation” feeling to everyday spaces. Now, Vern is sharing those insider techniques, so we can all create our own personal havens with Vern Yip’s Vacation at Home: Design Ideas for Creating Your Everyday Getaway.

Vern will also take us on a stunning photographic tour that showcases exactly how these methods have been adapted in his own home and the homes of his clients–whether it’s his own 590-square-foot carriage house in Rosemary Beach, Florida (and its fabulous main house), a contemporary ski lodge in Park City, Utah, or a desert oasis in St. George, Utah. Through this rare, all-access peek into these interiors, we see and understand how active spaces, such as kitchens and family rooms, can also be organized and calm. We experience and learn how private spaces, such as bedrooms and bathrooms, can be restful rather than overrun. Whether it’s children’s bedrooms, home offices, or living rooms, Vern assures us that we can create that relaxing, reenergizing, and restorative environment, wherever we live.
