The Cairo Genizah Revisited
The Cairo Genizah-- a treasure trove of 400,000 Jewish manuscript fragments kept in the storeroom of the Ben Ezra Synagogue in Old Cairo, Egypt – is endlessly fascinating. This class will include a brief overview of the discovery of the genizah and current investigations of newly translated documents. These varied documents give the curious reader a detailed picture of the economic and cultural life of the Mediterranean world over many centuries. Take a peek into a lost world!
