A Lifelong Connection to Community
Shauna Grosswald, Dara Grant, and Jessica Sacks
For sisters Shauna Grosswald, Dara Grant, and Jessica Sacks, the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta is woven into the fabric of their lives, shaping their Jewish identity across generations.

Their connection to the Marcus JCC began in childhood, growing up immersed in its programs. From summer camps to sports leagues, the Marcus JCC was where they formed friendships, strengthened their Jewish connections, and found a true sense of community. But they understood the true impact through the example of their late mother, Susan Arnovitz, whose deep dedication to Jewish learning shaped their perspective on the role of community in their lives.
“Our mother was passionate about education, especially Jewish learning,” Shauna shared. “Even when she was in the hospital, she would dial in to her Melton classes. Being part of the community meant everything to her.”
Now, as mothers, they find themselves in a familiar role—dropping off their own children at the same fields where they once played, signing them up for the same summer camps, and watching them experience Shabbat celebrations in a place that still feels like home. The friendships they formed decades ago continue to shape their lives, and now, their children are creating their own lifelong connections.
“The JCC has been a constant in our lives,” Dara says. “From preschool to sports, it has been a gathering place where we feel at home.”
Beyond their families’ participation, the sisters are committed to ensuring the Marcus JCC of Atlanta continues to thrive for future generations. As proud Pacesetters, the MJCCA’s major gift program, they see their philanthropic support as a way to give back to the institution that has given them so much.
“Becoming Pacesetters was an easy decision for us,” Shauna shares. “The Marcus JCC has given us so much—it’s our way of making sure it continues to thrive for future generations.”
Looking ahead, they see the Marcus JCC of Atlanta as a lifelong resource that grows and evolves with its members.
“The MJCCA is a rare place where everyone can come together. No matter where you come from, it’s about being part of a community that welcomes you exactly as you are,” says Jessica.
For these sisters, the Marcus JCC is where their story continues. Their children are creating their own lifelong memories, just as they did. And that, to them, is the greatest legacy of all.
