Hartman: Judaism as an Interpretive Tradition
view options Judaism as an Interpretive Tradition: Jewish life is based on the reading and rereading of texts over time, with successive generations dialoguing with and interpreting the texts within the context of their own experiences. Each generation finds a multiplicity of interpretations. In this class we will read a variety of texts to examine their interpretations, and attempt to determine their relevance to our lives..
The overall goal of this class is to demonstrate how the idea of Judaism as an interpretive tradition can shape a meaningful engagement with Jewish ideas. We will learn how the interpretive activity has developed, argued and evolved through history.
